National Disability Service (NDS) launch of Zero Tolerance initiative website

HCSCC wishes to acknowledge the National Disability Service (NDS) recently launched Zero Tolerance initiative website: https://www.nds.org.au/resources/zero-tolerance

The centrepiece to this is the ‘Understanding Abuse’ training program for frontline workers and managers which seeks to position thinking about abuse prevention in an accessible human rights framework.

There are three short online modules, 8 ‘learning bites’ (3-4 minute video scenarios), printable worksheets for individual and group work and a guide for supervisors.

The training is based around the NDS ‘Empowerment Circle’ model, which was heavily informed by the Speaking up About Safety consultation NDS undertook with people with disability.

NDS have also developed a Safeguarding for Boards guide and other helpful resources – all of which are free and available for use now by anyone in Australia.
